Jump on the No Tar Sands Caravan

Hi Friends,

My name is Ildiko Polony, I live in San Francisco, CA, I’m a professional modern dancer, a student at UC Berkeley and I have been incredibly moved by the call to action to protest the Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline. I am willing to risk arrest, but that doesn’t seem like enough given what’s at stake, so I am organizing the No Tar Sands Caravan to DC. Are you planning on driving or do you need a ride to DC? Would you like to make it a fun, unifying and awareness building trip? Go to our website:

www.notarsandscaravan.org

The No Tar Sands Caravan will get as many people to DC as possible, while increasing the visibility of the cause along the way and building unity among us protesters before we even get to DC. The caravan will leave from the west coast and take a more or less straight route through the middle of the country. Signs and banners on our cars will help spread the word and the excitement. Stopping along the way for bon-voyage events as we pick up more protesters, or holding a press conference at an intersection with the proposed pipeline in places like Lincoln, Nebraska, will send our message even further. Putting something together like this will require the coordination of people from all over the country, pulling their resources and acting together.

The exact details of the route and schedule are still in the works. They will be solidified once we receive information from you. By filling out our online form at the website, including where you are leaving from and your availability for travel, a route will begin to take shape and we will contact you with the details. You can also get in touch with us at notarsandscaravan@gmail.com

I can’t wait to see people caravaning across the country to uplift the climate movement and stop the Tar Sands!

Much love,

Ildiko

PA and other northern states in the Marcellus Shale gas region are being destroyed by the gas drillers and their “fracking” (mixing our CLEAN water from our streams, lakes and rivers with VERY TOXIC chemicals to blast into the earth in order to release the natural gas). The MILLIONS OF GALLONS of poison water (brine) that is left is spilling into our natural water supplies, and the methane is migrating to the surface, which ruins wells, leaving the “flammable” water unusable. The water supply for 100,000+ people will be poisoned if the gas companies are allowed to continue their activities. The only ones who PROFIT are the gas companies and the POLITICIANS who took BRIBES from them. The “fracking” process has the potential to be worse than LOVE CANAL times 1000. BAN GAS DRILLING UNLESS STRONGER LAWS ARE ENFORCED TO PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT. Check out the Gas Drilling Awareness Coalition website. Thank you for your support!

Ildiko Polony has agreed that we can add a route from Florida to her caravans. So you can sign up for the Caravan from Florida if you are along I-95 or I-75. I’ve volunteered to coordinate the Florida to DC route.

If you live in the Pacific Northwest and want to join a tributary caravan that will join the main caravan in Salt Lake City or beyond, you should know that such a caravan is being organized in Missoula, Montana. Like everything else, the details are being worked out as we go, so there are no reliable specifics right now. But if you would like to join us, it would be good to know as soon as possible. You can contact me directly in Missoula (wrwilde44@msn.com 406-721-5289) or Ildiko. Either way, you should follow the sign-up instructions discussed above. Currently we consist of one car and three riders, but I am looking for others in the region to join us. Hope tohear from you
